This project consisted in performing out a thorough SugarCRM customization to provide it with several features specifically tailored to customer requirements and not provided by SugarCRM CE, as different automatically calculated fields, complex data validations based on states and values of related modules, image galleries, multimedia support to host and manage video and audio files from SugarCRM, etc.
This work consisted in implementing an exclusive private area only accessible to customers from the corporate website of an electricity distribution company. This reserved area should display information to customers about their own contracts, monthly consumption and billing data, while should allow modification of its own basic user data.
This was the first project of a long series that I conducted for an electricity distribution company from Spain whose name I omit for confidentiality. This organization had very specific needs that required a comprehensive custom development process, but for various considerations it was not desirable to start development from scratch. Therefore, the client chose to take an existing application providing the more general features required as contact management, customers and suppliers management, shared calendar, integrated email, etc. But at the same time that application had to be flexible and extensible enough to allow a whole range of custom blocks to be developed to meet their specific requirements.
When we create a custom module in SugarCRM (eg “grt_Providers_Contracts”) and create a link or relationship between that module and one that uses the “Related to” field type such as “Tasks”, we probably will want to search all the tasks related to our new module “grt_Providers_Contracts” from the simple or advanced search form from “Tasks” module.
However, there is a bug in SugarCRM that prevents us to retrieve tasks related to a custom module if that module has underscores (_) within his name, showing the following fatal error:

One of the major projects that took place in Gretur Viajes was the development of a comprehensive customer relationship management system (CRM), which also allowed internal business processes management and complete travel bookings administration, wich also includes bonds and other documentation management, billing and administration of all different products and services offered on the corporate web site. That is, a system both CRM, ERP and Content Management System (CMS) was needed. It must also be accessible via web from any geographical location, easy to use and reliable, especially robust and reliable.
